States Parties

A ‘State Party’ to the International Convention against Doping in Sport is a country that has ratified, accepted, approved or acceded to this international instrument, and is therefore legally bound by its provisions.

When a country decides to ratify this Convention, it should take into consideration the following important mechanisms:

  • The instrument of ratification is to be signed by the Head of State of its Government, or its Minister of Foreign Affairs.

  • Once signed, duly dated and sealed by one of the above-mentioned authorities, the original of the instrument of ratification should be sent to the Director-General of UNESCO at the following address:

  • Pursuant to the provisions of Article 37 of the Convention, it will enter into force in the country concerned, the first day of the month following the expiration of a period of one month after the date of deposit of the instrument of ratification, acceptance, approval or accession with the Director-General of UNESCO.
  • The new State Party may thereupon take full part in the Conference of Parties to the Convention, which takes place every two years at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.
  • The ratification of the Convention and its entry into force allows a country to access the Fund for the Elimination of Doping in Sport, which aims at improving capacity to fight doping around the world, notably providing assistance to States Parties to develop and implement anti-doping programmes in accordance with the Convention.

 

Logo of the Convention

The logo of the Convention was adopted by the Fifth Session of the Conference of the Parties (Resolution 5CP/3): 

The use of the logo of the Anti-Doping Convention is governed by the provisions stipulated in the operational directives included in Resolution 5CP/3.

States Parties promote the Convention as the overarching framework for elaborating national anti-doping policies, through their Permanent Delegations, their National Commissions, their National Compliance Platforms and their various activities. They are strongly encouraged to increase the visibility of the Convention requesting the use of the logo of the Convention for their events, publications, websites and social networks.
