The UNESCO Regional Office for Southern Africa (ROSA), in partnership with Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, Department of Disability Affairs will host a workshop on 2 December 2021 in Harare to orient the National Disability Board members on the recently launched National Disability Policy.

Within the European Union-funded Spotlight Initiative Outcome 2, UNESCO Regional Office for Southern Africa is implementing Activity 2.1.6: Supporting the Disabilities board to plan and implement programmes on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV)/Harmful Practices (HP)/Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). During the implementation of Spotlight Initiative Phase 1, UNESCO supported the National Disability Board to develop a costed three-year strategic plan for 2020-2022. Building on the strategic plan and the launch of the National Disability Policy in June 2021, during the Phase 2 of Spotlight Initiative, UNESCO’s interventions on Outcome 2 will focus on capacitating the board to implement the strategic plan and synchronize the plan with the National Disability Policy to ensure coherence in addressing GBV and Harmful Practices.

This orientation workshop will also serve as a platform to identify and strategize on the key Gender-Based Violence and Sexual and Reproductive Health interventions within the strategic plan and the National Disability policy and map out implementation priorities for 2022. Workshop participants will include members of the National Disability Board and the Department of Disability Affairs in the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare. The workshop has also been scheduled to take place within the 16 days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence and in particular a day before the International Disability Day commemorations on 3 December 2021.
