Parma Celebrates Sustainable Gastronomy on World Food Day
On the occasion of World Food Day (16 October), Parma, (Italy) a Creative City of Gastronomy, organized two events to celebrate sustainable Gastronomy, respectively the “Startup weekend” and the one-day “Healthy, Social, Sustainable”.
Exploring networking, professional and entrepreneurial growth, and urban and regional development, the “Startup Weekend” aimed at transforming business ideas into concrete projects. Held in Parma from 15 to 17 October 2021, this year’s edition offered innovators, solvers, stakeholders and local companies a platform for exchange and affirmation to reward the best ideas on the fundamental theme of food sustainability.
In collaboration with Emc2 Onlus, on 16 October 2021 the “Healthy, Social, Sustainable” event took place in Parma as part of the Erasmus+ European Project "From seed to spoon". Focusing on the food supply chain, and the implementation of sustainable agriculture in cities and peri-urban natural areas, this long-term project contributes to the improvement of nutritional awareness among today’s youth, and aims to promote the development of healthy eating habits. During this one-day event, the city of Parma promoted sustainable gastronomy through a series of food centered activities, including the establishment of a food market offering local agricultural products, workshops for children allowing them to discover regional food, and a conference held in collaboration with the Catholic University of Piacenza.
Through these two events, Parma has reinforced its engagement in the field of promoting education and training on sustainable gastronomy, as well as fostering the creation of new employment opportunities in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals.
