A primary education tutors training was co-facilitated by IICBA, UNICEF-Kenya and KICD in Nairobi, Kenya from 31 October to 4 November 2016.

UNICEF Kenya and UNESCO-IICBA have entered an agreement to work on teacher development program for North East Kenya. The main purpose of this project is to provide technical backstopping for the Ministry of Education, Science & Technology (MoEST) of Kenya on the teachers' training and professional development under school based teacher training program, which is intended to address the education gaps created due to the crises in North East Kenya. Over 80 teacher educators and a total of 100 participants were involved in the training.

UNESCO-IICBA Team, represented by Ms. Eyerusalem Azmeraw and Dr. Temechegn Engida, covered the following topics during the four-day training:
·  Child Protection, Well-being and Inclusion 
·  Child centered, Active and Engaging Pedagogy in Education in Emergencies 
·  Gender Responsive Pedagogy for primary school teachers 
·  Teaching Primary School Science 
·  ICT for gender responsive STEAM Education 
·  ICT competency frameworks and approaches for teachers

During the event IICBA staff also participated in INEE Meet-Up event that involved 5 INEE members Ms. Elias Noor (UNICEF Kenya), Ms. Catherine Cheboiwo (Ministry of Education, Kenya), Ms. Elysia Buchanan (Aga Khan University, Nairobi), Ms. Eyerusalem Azmeraw and Dr. Temechegn Engida (UNESCO-IICBA), and approximately 100 other participants from Kenya.

The Meet-Up was intended to sharing of INEE toolkit materials such as Teacher Education Modules to all the 86 participants composed of Teacher Training College Tutors, Quality Assurance and Standards officials and Curriculum Developers from Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development.
