IICBA, represented by Mr. Solomon Andargie, Project officer presented at the Regional Meeting on Gender Assessment in Teacher Education held in Bangkok, 30-31 May 2017.

Under the UNESCO-HNA Partnership for Girls’ and Women’s Education, UNESCO Bangkok Office launched an initiative to promote gender equality in the Asia-Pacific region in 2015.  The five-year project “Enhancing Girls’ and Women’s Right to Quality Education through Gender Sensitive Policy Making, Teacher Development and Pedagogy in South, Southeast and Central Asia” which is in line with SDG4 and SDG 5 was then launched and targeted countries for the project are Cambodia, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Uzbekistan.

A total of 35 to 40 participants from the 5 countries and UNESCO joined the meeting and representatives from each country presented findings of gender assessment in the respective teacher education programmes and discussed action plans. Mr. Solomon from UNESCO-IICBA made a presentation titled “Preparation of a comprehensive Gender-Responsive Pedagogy (GRP)Toolkit” and explained significance, effective contents, and utilization of the tool kit, which is current initiative taken by IICBA to support implementation of the UNESCO-HNA Funds-in-Trust (HFIT) Project in Ghana and Ethiopia.

Under the UNESCO-HNA Funds-in-Trust (HFIT) Project, UNESCO-IICBA is providing technical backstopping to Ghana and Ethiopia to enhance institutional capacities for gender responsive teacher training and professional development. IICBA was invited to share knowledge and experience in GRP for the Asian counterparts.
