Visit to Ethiopian Academy of Science (EAS) by IICBA

UNESCO-IICBA’s Director, Dr. Yumiko Yokozeki and Dr. Binyam Sisay visited the Ethiopian Academy of Science (EAS) headquarters, which is housed in an exquisitely renovated historical building around Gulele area of Addis Ababa. The building used to be a residence of one of the most renowned scholars and politicians of the 20th century Ethiopia, the late Blaten Geta Hiruy Wolde Selassie. Established in 2010, Ethiopian Science Academy (EAS) is a merit-based academy that promotes the development of all the sciences in Ethiopia.

During the visit Dr. Yumiko Yokozeki met Prof. Tsege Gebre-Mariam, President of EAS, Prof. Masresha Fetene, Executive Director of EAS and Dr. Moges Yigezu, member of EAS and discussed potential areas of collaboration and engagement. As the only Category One UNESCO institute in Africa that focuses on technical backstopping, research and policy support to teacher education and development on the continent, the two institutions have a huge potential for collaborations in various areas.
