Education in emergencies, vulnerability analysis, risk reduction strategies for the education sector, education sector plan preparation, capacity development

Ms. Leonora MacEwen is an Assistant Programme Specialist at IIEP and a member of the Technical Cooperation team. She manages IIEP’s work that focuses on integrating conflict and disaster risk reduction into education sector policy making and planning processes.

She has contributed to developing guidance and research in this field, and in the area of education in emergencies. She also contributes to technical assistance projects, cooperating with countries on the development of sector plans, as well as vulnerability analyses and risk reduction strategies for the education sector.

In addition to developing guidance and contributing to technical assistance projects, Leonora has developed a distance education course for educational planners on integrating conflict and disaster risk reduction in education sector plans. She is actively involved in supporting the institute in other training activities, including the Advanced Training Programme.

She represents IIEP on the Global Education Cluster Working Group, and on UNISDR’s Global Alliance for Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience in the Education Sector (GAD3RES).
