OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

 

The Unit for Technology and Artificial Intelligence in Education under the Future of Learning and Innovation Team, Education Sector, is responsible for supporting Member States’ efforts to leverage technological innovation to support the achievement of SDG 4 and enable the futures of learning. The main areas of work of the Unit include national ICT in education policies, AI and education, open educational resources (OER) and mobile learning, as well as steering the use of emerging technology as a public good for education.

 

Technological innovation in education is one of the thematic priorities of the Education Sector under the 41 C/4 medium-term Strategy (2022-2029) and the 41 C/5 Programme and Budget (2022-2025). The Unit is responsible for coordinating the implementation of project activities that will contribute to the achievement of the relevant expected output of 41 C/4 and 41 C/5 on leveraging technological and digital innovations to ensure more inclusive, effective and relevant learning. The activities will also be implemented through promoting digital public goods for education, developing AI competencies, and leveraging data and AI tools for learning.

 

Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Education, the guidance of the Director of Future of Learning and Innovation Team and the immediate supervision of the Chief of Unit for Technology and Artificial Intelligence in Education (ED/FLI/ICT), the incumbent will carry out the following tasks and responsibilities:

 

Long Description

  • Liaise with relevant stakeholders to establish a work plan, monitor progress and provide technical support in the framework of the Global Digital Library project and the Translate a Story campaign.
  • Organize virtual workshops and launch events in relation to the above-mentioned projects by providing technical and logistical support, including: the programming of events; preparing, collecting and organizing relevant materials, documents as well as presentations and reports; coordinating the participation of relevant stakeholders; drafting news articles; and promoting events through the established project website and related channels.
  • Assist with the preparation of communication campaigns and manage the design, layout and production of communication materials for the events and key projects if required.
  • Manage the ICT in Education website: produce relevant news stories and press releases, assist in coordinating the translation of content into required languages, liaise with Knowledge Management Services (KMS) and Division for Communications and Public Engagement (CPE).
  • Assist in the feasibility study on launching activities related to the promotion of open mother language based storybooks.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education

  • Advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in the field of education, humanities, international relations, social sciences or other closely related fields.

 

Work Experience

  • Minimum two years of relevant work experience in managing projects in the field of ICT in education or coordinating the implementation of projects concerning multiple countries, of which preferably one year acquired at international level.
  • Experience in the implementation, evaluation and advocacy of programmes or projects related to education, as well as dealing with internal and external partners and networks in the field of ICT in education.
  • Experience in planning, preparation and organization of workshops and meetings under the framework of education-related projects.

 

Skills/Competencies

  • Solid analytical skills and ability to speak and present effectively, concisely and persuasively.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and drafting skills.
  • Ability to work in a team and maintain effective working relationship in a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to take initiative in follow up actions.
  • Excellent knowledge of ICT and good skills in using social media and mobile applications to advocate for the Global Digital Library project and the Translate a Story campaign and other outcomes of the project.

 

Languages

  • Excellent knowledge of English (written and spoken) and good knowledge of French.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

 

Work Experience

  • Experience with UNESCO and understanding of the organization, including its administrative procedures and financial process.
  • Experience in working with UN partners, including UNESCO's National Commissions, Ministries of Education, UN agencies and inter-governmental organizations.
  • Experience in administering and coordinating international events.

Languages

  • Knowledge of another official UNESCO's language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, and Spanish).
