Call for papers on open science policies as an accelerator for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals

In November 2021, the first international framework on open science was adopted by 193 countries attending UNESCO’s General Conference. By making science more transparent and more accessible, the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science will make science more equitable and inclusive. With its mandate for the sciences, UNESCO is driving at the global level the shift to open science and ensure that it truly contributes to bridging the knowledge and technology gaps between and within countries.
To advance the implementation of the Recommendation, UNESCO, in collaboration with the Journal of Science Policy & Governance (JSPG) and the Major Group for Children and Youth (MGCY) is pleased to announce a call for papers on shaping the future of global scientific practices in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic, focused on Open Science Policies as an Accelerator for Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
A global call for papers will result in a Special Topics Issue of the Journal of Science Policy & Governance to be released in 2022. The authors of three selected publications will be invited to present their research findings at special events organized by UNESCO and MGCY. Students, post-doctoral researchers, policy fellows, early career researchers and young professionals from around the world are invited to submit their contributions on how open science can help develop policies to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This Special Issue is also supported by partners from the Global Young Academy Open Science Working Group. The submission deadline for the Special Topics Issue is on 10 July 2022.
In this context, the Journal of Science Policy & Governance is also organizing a series of training sessions, including a science policy paper writing workshop on open science policy development, collaborative governance, scientific culture, and international cooperation, and four webinars in which experts will discuss about various open science issues covered in the Special Issue.
