Hello! My name is Aglaia. I made a film about teenagers from across the globe, who talk about their life in confinement. The main message of the film is that we need to act responsibly in order to beat this disease. Even if doing so is difficult. The film is available on YouTube. I am ready to make more films, because I think that young people believe each other and can relate to each other's problems. If one teenager says: "act responsibnly, wear a mask, wash your hands", other teenagers are likely to listen. Netflix, Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) and Cinema & Broadcasting Union of Turkey have partnered to create a new COVID-19 Film and Television Relief Fund to help the hardest hit workers in the Turkish creative community. The fund, managed by İKSV and Cinema & Broadcasting Union and set up with a TRY 4 million donation from Netflix, aims to provide short-term relief to thousands of workers and freelancers affected by the halt in productions across Turkey. Workers such as assistants, coordinators, technicians and operators from different production departments like camera, sound, art, make-up, costume design, locations and transportation, among others, many of whom are paid hourly wages and work on a project-to-project basis, will be eligible to apply for the TRY 2,500 one-time benefit. Starting from May 27, the members of the Turkish creative community will be able to apply by filling out an online application at Cinema & Broadcasting Union’s website. An evaluation board composed of members from İKSV and the Union will review applicants and determine the recipients within three weeks.

To support those affected by the pandemic, Soho Theatre launched a new initiative where you can rent Fleabag. Every rental contributes to charities dedicated to supporting those affected by the Covid-19 pandemic : 35% of proceeds will be sent to the National Emergency Trust supporting the most vulnerable in society, 35% will be sent to NHS Charities Together supporting NHS staff and volunteers caring for COVID-19 patients, 15% will be sent to Acting For Others who distribute to people struggling across the theatre sector, and 15% will be kept for the Fleabag Support Fund.

BBC is delivering programs for Culture In Quarantine, a virtual festival of the arts rooted in the experience of national lockdown. Culture in Quarantine will, across television, radio and online, give the nation access to the arts at a time when they need it the most. Providing extraordinary access to shuttered exhibitions, performances and museums, a virtual book festival and much more besides. The BBC mission is to increase access to the arts, at a time when the buildings that support them are closed, and to support artists and arts organisations in the process.

"Ballet is for everyone, everywhere." The English National Ballet is working hard to continue to give free access to great content, as well as ways to keep people dancing, active, and inspired. As part of their ENB at HOME initiative, notable English National Ballet dancers have been holding virtual ballet classes for professionals, beginners, young people and a range of others. Additionally, every week they host a #WednesdayWatchParty for one of their celebrated ballets. This is composed of virtual Q&As and interviews with leading dancers, and access to the full length ballet which is free to view on Youtube for 48 hours. After this, significant extracts from the ballet remain on their Youtube page.

A list of free, online, boredom-busting resources

In light of the present unprecedented situation worldwide, and inspired by other initiatives by filmmakers and film institutions in the Arab region and beyond, Arab Fund for Arts and Culture launched “Screens and Streams”. The initiative will render a wide selection of Arab independent films- produced between 2011 and 2016- available online, for free, for a period of up to 7 days.

The Arab Fund for Arts and Culture –currently runs nine open call grants programs and one training program by nomination. The grants support individual artists and institutions through the following programs: Visual Arts (VA), Performing Arts (PA), Documentary Film (ADP), Arab Documentary Photography (ADPP), Creative and Critical writings (CCW), Research on the Arts (RAP), Music, Training and Regional Events (TR), Cinema. And Arts and Culture Entrepreneurship (ACE)

An initiative launched by a group of Arab filmmakers and film institutions, to bring some of the best, most thought-provoking and independently-minded works of contemporary Arab cinema to enjoy for free on this website for a limited time. A new issue will be released (at least) every 15 days.

In some cities and regions of the Kyrgyz Republic, a state of emergency has been introduced. The government of the Kyrgyz Republic urges people not to leave their homes and observe quarantine. Meanwhile, famous musicians and performers of the Kyrgyz Republic continue to share their art through online concerts. Every evening at 6 o’clock, the live broadcasts are hosted by Assol Moldokmatova.

Aza Sydykov is a concert pianist and President of the Kyrgyz American Foundation in New York City, which sponsors the Eurasia Festival as well as various cultural exchange and educational activities. Born into a musical family in the Kyrgyz Republic, Sydykov grew up in Moscow where he was taught and mentored by Russian piano legend, Nikolai Arnoldovich Petrov. He made his professional debut as a piano soloist at age of 17. He has since performed all over the world - in Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Turkey, Finland, Ukraine and China. In the United States he has appeared as solo pianist at Carnegie Hall and in various other prestigious concert venues across the country.

In the spirit of the UNESCO ResiliArt Movement, two Eastern African countries held online public debates with key stakeholders in the cultural and creative industries sector to share experiences and perspectives on the effects of COVID-19 on artists, performers and other actors working in the sector.

Based on an assessment of cultural associations in Yemen, UNESCO published a Call for Proposal which led to the selection of eight CSOs from funding through a small scale grant. This initiative directly contributes to the economic resilience of young artists and culture professionals who will be severely affected by the pandemic and its cultural iterations like elsewhere in the world: cultural productions suspended, handicrafts and small industries interrupted, artists and cultural professionals losing income, etc.

Social Distancing Festival is a platform launched by a playwright whose production has been affected by COVID-19. The site celebrates  artists and the work that has been cancelled/delayed/disrupted.
