Museology and Water Cultures in Ibero-America
Water museums play a key role in the transition towards a new sense of civilisation that connects with the dominant role of water in all its dimensions, including the vital, environmental and ecological, social, economic, cultural, artistic and spiritual. In turn, they play a fundamental role in placing sustainable and inclusive water management at the centre at all levels of governance of social imaginaries and educational, academic, political and economic agendas. The Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP) of UNESCO for Latin America and the Caribbean, through its working group "Education and Water Culture", carries out the initiative of the regional chapter of the Water Museums of Latin America and the Caribbean, associated to the Global Network of Water Museums (WAMU NET). Through the exchange of experiences and best practices, the aim is to encourage people and institutions to implement actions to strengthen the relationship with the most precious liquid element on Earth within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In this way, the aim is to develop new perceptions of water and more sustainable management models for the emergence of a "new water culture".
