More than 70 years serving the region
This Office has been shaped over the years, in relation to the regional reality and the changes that UNESCO has had at different levels, contributing to reflection, critical thinking and the generation of science-based knowledge as a basis for policies aimed at sustainable development.
Three conceptual axes are proposed as a framework of reference that cover the great Latin American and Caribbean challenges to consolidate democracies, foster sustainable and inclusive development, and protect and promote human rights for all:
- Democratic governance and justice
- Socio-environmental resilience
- Access to knowledge and the right to science
In addition to these three major pillars of strategic action, there is a cross-cutting perspective: contributing to the formation and consolidation of UNESCO's values for new political, business, social, and academic leaders, particularly women, youth, indigenous peoples, and people of African descent.
