Uruguay: call to the Marcelo Jelen National Written Press Award 2021

20/01/2022
Montevideo, Uruguay
16 - Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions

We invite journalists who work in Uruguay to submit their articles to the 6th. Edition of the Marcelo Jelen National Written Press Award, before February 10, 2022. The event is organized by Cotidiano Mujer with the support of the Uruguayan Press Association (APU), UN Women and UNESCO.

This award stands out in the Uruguayan journalistic landscape for several reasons. In the first place, it is one of the few opportunities for recognition of quality written journalism in the country, thanks to the joint efforts of various organizations to "reward journalistic productions that contribute to dismantling unique thought, promote diversity and non-discrimination." In this sense, it pays tribute to the work of Marcelo Jelen (Montevideo, 1964-2014) who was something of a rara avis in local journalism, for he knew how to masterfully combine information, sense of humour, criticism, commitment to human rights and irreverent language.

Among the works awarded in previous editions we find investigative journalism with original, inspiring and courageous approaches on topics as diverse as: adoption, political communication, migratory crisis, religious indoctrination, embezzlement and mental health, among, other topics that can be read here (in Spanish)
