About UNESCO Office in New York

The UNESCO Liaison Office in New York (NYO) was established to liaise UNESCO with the United Nations Governing Bodies, the UN Secretariat and the UN Specialized Agencies funds and programmes based in New York.

The NYO secures a place for UNESCO in the intergovernmental platform at the United Nations in New York, with quality and timely information based on a track record of both normative and field-based operational activities.

The Office facilitates the channelling of current and relevant information on UNESCO’s strategic objectives to the UN Secretariat, funds and programmes, permanent missions at the UN and civil society.

The NYO’s core tasks include inter alia:

  • representing UNESCO in different inter-governmental and UN inter-agency meetings and to many diverse cooperation platforms in New York.
  • advocating for UNESCO’s mandate, strategic programme priorities and orientations and acting as a clearinghouse for information of relevance to UNESCO.
  • developing new partnerships with UN entities, donors, the private sector and the civil society.
