Call for Proposals - for the Sustainable Management of the W-Arly-Pendjari Complex

The W-Arly-Pendjari Complex (WAP) is a transnational property (about 450 km border) shared by the Republic of Niger, Burkina Faso and the Republic of Benin in West Africa. The Niger part of the property was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1996. It will be extended in 2017 to its Benin and Burkina Faso parts. The site is also a transboundary biosphere reserve. In addition to pressures related to demography and land occupation on the periphery becoming critical, in recent years the security situation at the WAP Complex has become very worrying with the emergence and development of different armed groups in the property.

The initiative, prepared by the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and financed by the Government of Norway, aims to "Support in the short and medium term the establishment of transboundary, operational and effective processes based on State sovereignty to save an international shared property, the W-Arly-Pendjari Complex (Benin, Burkina Faso, Niger), in the face of a rapidly deteriorating security situation".

Within this framework, a team of two consultants (1 international and 1 national/regional) will be recruited to lead, animate and energise the process, and produce the strategic documents. This team of two consultants will be composed of a mission leader assisted by an expert from a WAP country.
