UNESCO has prepared a country profile of Uzbekistan on Science, Technology and Innovation

On October 27 2020, the online launch of the Publication “Mapping Research and Innovation in the Republic of Uzbekistan” will take place in Tashkent. It will bring together the representatives from the Islamic Development Bank (IsBD), the Natural Sciences Sector of UNESCO Headquarters, the Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan to UNESCO, the National Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan for UNESCO, the UNESCO Tashkent Office, the Ministry of Innovative Development of Uzbekistan, UN agencies in Uzbekistan, and a number of national and international stakeholders such as development partners and institution.

The event is facilitated by the Islamic Development Bank, UNESCO HQ and UNESCO Tashkent Office, in close cooperation with the Ministry of Innovation Development of Uzbekistan within the framework of the UNESCO-IsBD project on strengthening inclusive Science, Technology and Innovation System in Uzbekistan*.

The Publication presents an analysis of key characteristics of Uzbekistan on Science, Technology and Innovation (STI), conducted by UNESCO for the Government of Uzbekistan and the Islamic Development Bank.

The study, available in English, Russian and Uzbek, has become the 10th volume in UNESCO’s «GO SPIN** Country Profile in Science, Technology and Innovation» series.

This study mainly draws on GO SPIN methodology and consists of seven sections, including an overview of STI development needs and opportunities, analysis of strengths and weaknesses, and recommendations formulated for the Government of Uzbekistan.

The event will be attended by high-level officials from UNESCO, IsDB and the Government of Uzbekistan and will provide an opportunity to discover key findings and recommendations of the study.

*The UNESCO-IsDB project on strengthening inclusive Science, Technology and Innovation system in Uzbekistan, funded generously by the Islamic Development Bank in the amount of 300 000 USD, was launched in December 2019.

**The Global Observatory of Science, Technology and Innovation Policy (GO SPIN) is UNESCO's digital platform that provides a methodological tool to map national STI landscapes, as well as analysis of STI policies and their implementation experience. The platform is a source of information on STI for more than 50 developing countries across Africa, Latin America and Asia
