About UNESCO Office in Dhaka

Established in 1996 the UNESCO Dhaka Office is committed to contribute to UNESCO’s mission in Bangladesh and the region addressing social, cultural and economic dimensions of sustainable development through education, culture, communication and information.

In partnership with the Government, the Bangladesh National Commission for UNESCO, other national and international partners, UNESCO undertakes strategic initiatives to create and reinforce the necessary policies, systems, programmes and capacities to reach targets identified in existing national development frameworks, such as the 7th Five-Year Plan (2016-2021), and the government’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals and Agenda 2030.

The UNESCO Dhaka Office works closely within the UN system in Bangladesh, cooperating with other UN Agencies, and actively participates in the UN Country Team, Theme Groups and UN Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) 2017-2020.
