Young people aged 18-35 across Africa aren’t necessarily aware of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), yet they constitute over 70% of the total population. Many want to contribute to making society a better place. And having access to more information and knowledge makes this easier.

Increasing understanding, providing inspiration

This is where the Climate Smart Agriculture Youth Network came in. In 2015, the network created the African Youth for the Sustainable Development Goals Training (AYSDGT) project. Working closely with local communities and partners, the project teams help organise training sessions and communication campaigns to encourage young people to take action and create their own initiatives, paving the way for more sustainable lifestyles.

Adapting to linguistic and cultural differences, the SDGs have been translated into 60 local languages making them more accessible, particularly for those living in rural areas. In the long run, Climate Smart Agriculture Youth Network would like to see every member country roll out the African Youth for the Sustainable Development Goals Training to rally local support and amplify its impact.
