Mohammed Adnan El Guennouni’s ambition? “Plant a million flowers in Morocco by 2027†In 2018, this young entrepreneur created The Future is Green, convinced that education is one of the most effective ways to promote sustainable development. Rather than giving children bags of food, he wanted to share knowledge so they can plant and harvest their own food.

“The school must be this transmission belt making it possible to make the link between knowledge, know-how and interpersonal skills, a clean place, with enough green and gardens to encourage children to learn better,†he explains.

The seeds of tomorrow

As well involving young people in activities to preserve the environment, the project has also set up seed banks as a concrete solution to help maintain crop diversity, protect from climate change and natural disasters, and ensure patent-free seeds for farmers and local inhabitants.

The Future is Green is already making a difference including transforming a 500m2 urban landfill into a flower production unit in the town of Sidi Kacem, as well as planting tulips in some of Morocco’s hottest areas.

To turn this initiative into a national school programme, the Mohammed needs support and funding. Would you like to help him?
