UNESCO Donated IT Equipment for Ethiopia to Improve the Agro-processing Occupations in the TVET Institutions
UNESCO Addis Ababa Liaison Office donated IT equipment for the Ethiopian Federal TVET Agency to support the TVET institutions with ICT facilities in the field of agro-processing. The handover ceremony of the IT equipment was held on November 4, 2021 at Ethiopian Technical University (ETU), Addis Ababa, in the presence of UNESCO, ETU and Federal TVET Agency Officials.
On the occasion, Dr. Teshale Berecha, President of Ethiopian Technical University said, “Donated IT equipment will support the TVET training institutions in the Agro-processing field by improving the Agro-processing occupations in the TVET colleges”
The donation is part of the UNESCO continued support of capacitating the TVET institutions in Ethiopia particularly in agro processing under the Better Education for African Rise II (BEAR II) project. The donated equipment constitute 52 HP laptops, 52 micro-connect USB-c to RJ5 internet adaptor, 52 case bag, 10 Desktop and 10 docking monitors to the Agro-processing field. Dr. Yumiko Yokozeki, the Director of Addis Ababa UNESCO Office handover the items.
Dr. Yumiko Yokozeki stated that the BEAR II Project in Ethiopia works to enhance the quality of TVET on equitable mode by 2030. BEAR II is a joint initiative between UNESCO and the Republic of Korea to support the improvement of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) systems in Ethiopia. The Director highlighted that, “these items will contribute to the improvement of IT facilities and enhance the quality of TVET”. Additionally, she requested that the IT equipment be utilized well in order to serve efficiently and effectively for better outcomes.
Dr. Teshale Berecha, President of Ethiopian Technical University, noted that the BEAR II project has anchored major achievements in the Agro-processing occupations some of them being increasing the relevance while enhancing the quality and perception of TVET. Dr. Teshale Berecha acknowledged UNESCO for their technical and financial support and their IT equipment donations.
