Within the framework of marking the International Literacy Day (ILD) 2020, the UNESCO Regional Office Abuja is organizing two virtual regional workshops on the importance of innovative youth and adult literacy programs in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic and beyond and on the contextualization of the UNESCO Strategy for Youth and Adult Literacy in countries in sub-Saharan Africa. The workshops will be organized in collaboration with UNESCO International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (IICBA), with support of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) Hamburg and the UNESCO Regional Offices in Dakar, Harare, Nairobi and Yaoundé.

The workshops will provide an opportunity for UNESCO to facilitate policy discussion on the impact of Covid-19 on youth and adult literacy and to share the Strategy with focal persons responsible for literacy in the countries of the region with a view to supporting them in the domestication and implementation of the strategy at country level.

Two webinars are planned:

Day 1 - Wednesday, 23rd of September 2020: Policy Dialogue on innovative methodologies for youth and adult literacy programmes in the midst of the pandemic and beyond, and the role of educators

Day 2 - Wednesday, 30th of September 2020: UNESCO Strategy on Youth and Adult Literacy (2020-2025)
