The Russian singer Alsou Abramova was appointed UNESCO Artist for Peace in July 2011, in light of her commitment to helping the most vulnerable people throughout the world, and her charitable activities aimed at empowering childhood development.
Alsou Abramova won international recognition through the Eurovision Song Contest 2000 in which she took second place. In 2001, she received the MTV Europe Music Award for “Best Russian Singer” and the World Music Award in Monaco for “Best Selling Russian Artist of the Year”.
In addition, she is also one of the founders of the International Folk Music Festival of Peoples of the River Volga, which attracts thousands of spectators every year, and of the Rainbow Foundation, which helps restore schools and hospitals, build churches and mosques and assists the most vulnerable people across the world.
