Franghiz ALI-ZADEH

The renowned Azerbaijani composer and musician Ms Franghiz Ali-Zadeh was designated UNESCO Artist for Peace in April 2008, in light of her efforts to raise public awareness on musical education for orphans and children in need.

Ms Ali-Zadeh has devoted her career as a composer in building cultural bridges through the creation of a unique musical style, combining the Azerbaijani Mugham tradition, proclaimed as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2003, and contemporary techniques. In her capacity as a UNESCO Artist for Peace, she supports UNESCO’s Programme for the Education of Children in Need.
