Gilberto GIL

The famous Brazilian singer, Gilberto Gil was designated UNESCO Artist for Peace in May 1999, in light of his contribution to the preservation of Brazilian cultural diversity through popular music. 

As Minister of Culture in Brazil from 2003 to 2008, he focused on the preservation of the architectural and cultural heritage of Brazil, such as Salvador de Bahia located in northeastern Brazil.
