UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Cultural Diplomacy

The artist Hedva Ser was designated UNESCO Special Envoy for Cultural Diplomacy in 2017, in light of her commitment to dialogue of cultures and social inclusion as a vehicle for a culture of peace.

Since her first term as a UNESCO Artist for Peace in 2011, Hedva Ser has participated in the OrganizationHeading 5’s mission with her work as an artist and as a godmother to various artistic projects. Her sculpture "the Tree of Peace" symbolizes peace between peoples and understanding between nations. She has inaugurated many of these monumental pieces around the world, including in Paris, New York City, Tel-Aviv, Philadelphia and Malta.

As the godmother of the Art Camp project, she promotes the creative and artistic work of young artists from conflict regions while supporting UNESCO's values such as peace promotion and the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. Through this project launched in 2012, Hedva Ser organizes numerous exhibitions around the world to promote the work of these young artists and highlight the power of artistic expression. In March 2018, in partnership with UNESCO, an Art Camp Andorra exhibition was organized at United Nations Headquarters during the 62nd session of the Commission on the Status of Women. In addition, Ms. Ser is the creator of the UNESCO World Book Capital Trophy.

"Firstly, I must thank the co-chairs of NGIC Vaira Vike-Freiberga and Ismail Serageldin for allowing me the honour to address the Forum this evening.

I was honoured to deliver a speech on the evening closure of the Baku forum organised by the Nizami Ganjavi International Center.

As a response to current global health crisis and violent conflict in Ukraine, UNESCO has introduced The Road to Peace, a Dialogue and Action for Tolerance and Intercultural Understanding to help promote a participatory approach to finding innovative solutions and new commitments to advance concrete initiatives for dialogue for peace."

"I was very happy to inaugurate yesterday my sculpture Reunification at the Sculpture Garden of the Hospital Tel Hashomer in Tel Aviv, in the presence of Professor Amiti Zive, Deputy director of Sheba Medical Center and Director of Rehabilitation Hospital, Mr Leo David, who sponsored this sculpture in honor of Professor Boleslav Goldman, previous director of the Hospital.

The sculpture illustrates the Kabbalistic ideas, especially on the idea of the eternal light that is hidden in a broken vessel. This sculpture is a real example of restoration and healing. #unesco #culturediplomacy #hospitaltelhashomer"

ArtCamp Andorra "Colors of the Planet" was held in Ajman, United Arab Emirates, from March 14 to 21, 2022. 21 artists from Arab countries participated.
The inauguration took place on March 14 with the presence of Dr. Karim Sevent, Rector of the University of Ajman, the Director General of the Department of Tourism of Ajman, Mr. Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry, main sponsor of the event and Mr. Jean-Michel Armengol, Secretary General of the Andorran National Commission for UNESCO. Ms. Hedva Ser, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Cultural Diplomacy and patron of the project since the 2012 edition, participated in the inauguration and closing ceremonies via videoconference.
About 40 original works constitute the ArtCamp Andorra collection in Ajman, which is currently on display in the new premises, Hub of the University of Ajman. These works will then be presented in other cities of the Emirates and even in France, at the headquarters of UNESCO in the framework of a joint Andorra/United Arab Emirates exhibition in June 2023.

Hedva Ser at the high level event "Peace, Diversity and Common Humanity"

The United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) and the Nizami Ganjavi International Center (NGIC) organized a conference to reflect on the pursuit of peace and justice around the world, celebrate diversity within our common humanity; and promote sustainability through the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

As one of the speaker, our UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Hedva Ser talked about the role of UNESCO and hers in cultural and artistic diversity which she sees as key to ensure security and sustainable development.

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the city's intercultural and interreligious dialogue and the 200th anniversary of its synagogue, our Goodwill Ambassador, Hedva Ser, visited the Haguenau Town Hall in Alsace on September 5, 2021.

She inaugurated the Tree of Peace in the presence of the Mayor of Haguenau, Claude Sturni, the Director General of Ipsos group, Nathalie Roos, the Chief Rabbi of the Bas-Rhin, Harold Avraham Weill and Maurice Dahan, President of the Consistoire Israélite of the Bas-Rhin.

On July 1rst, 2021, the Tree of Peace was inaugurated by Mayor, Francis Szpiner and took root in the 16th arrondissement city hall in Paris.

Since 2007, our UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, Hedva Ser travels the world and roots her Tree of Peace in different countries to raise our consciousness for the preservation of a world of dialogue and peace.
