UNESCO Honorary Ambassador and Special Envoy for Intercultural Dialogue

Metin Arditi was designated UNESCO Honorary Ambassador and Special Envoy for Intercultural Dialogue in 2014. Since his first mandate as a Goodwill Ambassador in 2012, Metin Arditi places his talents of writer and patron of the arts in the service of the Organization, promoting the culture of peace and reconciliation between people. 
Francophone writer of turkish origin, Metin Arditi received several literary awards for his essays and novels, including the Jean Giono Award for Le Turquetto (Actes Sud). He also received the Prix Mediterranée for his book L’Enfant qui mesurait le monde (Grasset). Actively involved in cultural life, he created two foundations in the Middle East: the “Instruments for peace” Foundation, which he chairs with the Palestinian poet, Elias Sanbar, and takes care of musical education for Israeli and Palestinian Youth. He also launched a series of public conferences entitled The Cultural Heritage of Humanity: An instrument for Peace, which aimed to raise public awareness on the vital role of culture for peace and the need to safeguard heritage in times of conflict.
