Milu VILLELA

The Brazilian philanthropist Maria de Lourdes Egydio Vilela, or Milú Villela, was designated UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador in the field of Inclusive Education, with particular regard to Education for Persons with Disabilities in November 2004. In 1994, she conceived the Community Association Despertar (Wake Up), offering professional courses to teenagers in São Paulo.

Also at home, she created the São Paulo Centre for Volunteers, aiming to consolidate culture and education in São Paulo. The success of the Centre, promoting volunteer work in benefit of the community, placed Milú Villela ahead of the Brazilian Committee for the United Nations Year of Volunteers in 2001. In addition, she is the President of the São Paulo Museum of Modern Art since 1994.
