H.E. Valdas ADAMKUS

UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for the Construction of Knowledge Societies

President of Lithuania from 1998 to 2003 and again from 2004 to 2009, H.E. Valdas Adamkus was designated UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for the Construction of Knowledge Societies in September 2003, in light of his work to promote social development, cultural diversity, dialogue and international cooperation.
During his presidency, H.E. Valdas Adamkus promoted rapid modernisation of Lithuania and consistently worked for the implementation of this goal. As a devoted environmentalist and promoter of information technologies, H.E. Valdas Adamkus has always provided UNESCO with the benefit of his wisdom and extensive experience in the building of knowledge societies.
