UNESCO IITE and NetDragon launch the joint project

E-Library

Background

Teachers are essential to the achievement of Education 2030 and SDG4, namely, ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. Meanwhile, teaching is becoming an ever-challenging profession in the digital age, as proven once again by the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, there is an urge to better support teaching in capacity building as qualification of teachers is at the heart of ensuring quality education for everyone.

Launching the project

In this regard, UNESCO IITE and a global leading creator of Internet communities NetDragon (China) are launching the joint project “Teacher Capacity Building with AI and Digital Technologies: E-library for Teachers”. The project is aimed to support the ongoing growth and capacity building of teachers in the era of smart learning by fully unleashing the potential of ICT and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The Project will contribute to achieving SDG 4 for education and particularly meeting Target 4.c by providing around 100,000 educators at global level with open educational resources, free public tools as well as online and onsite trainings, thereby empowering teachers to deliver quality and equitable education.

Objectives

In order to meet the needs of educational systems in different regions, the project will focus on the following objectives:

  • Developing and accumulating free EdTech open tools, online courses and other resources as E-library to support teaching and capacity building for teachers.
  • Promoting best practice sharing and evidence-based research on innovative teaching and teacher-supporting policy to encourage engagement of teachers and schools to use online resources for better quality teaching.
  • Organizing online and on-site lectures, workshops and training webinars on digital pedagogy and innovative teaching practices in different languages.
  • Establishing global and regional partnerships in selected countries for networking and helping them to localize this resource hub as their own platform for national teacher capacity building.

Outcomes

The key outcome of the Project will be the E-Resource platform in 3 languages (English, Russian, Arabic) with up-to-date digital resources and educational materials, capacity building activities for teachers, and strong partnership network. The E-Resource platform aims to provide a hub that serves as a resource and training as well as, communication and networking center for teachers around the globe with open education resources in different languages. The platform is intended to be used by teachers globally with a focus on the needs of Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Middle East and CIS region.
