About the project:

Music In Africa, a non-governmental and non-profit organization committed to the development of the music industry in Africa, proposes to: 1) collect and analyze statistics and big data to identify revenue models for African musicians; 2) provide educational content and digital tools to musicians to help them generate more income; 3) advocate for the development of legislation to support the music industry and monitor its implementation.

How does this project contribute to the implementation of the 2005 Convention?

  • Develops new business models for the music industry in South Africa– The project aims to identify viable revenue streams for musicians in South Africa. It also aims to provide comprehensive data and statistics on the music industry. Capacity building activities will facilitate the adoption and implementation of new revenue models that work in the South African context and that take into consideration the digital environment. 
  • Strengthens the role of civil society in the implementation of policy for the music industry – The Music Policy Committee will foster collaboration between the government, creators and business partners in order to shape policies that work in favor of musicians and to guarantee a sustainable environment for the music industry in South Africa.

  • Collecting  and analyzing statistics and big data on the South African music industry.
  • Development of an online platform with relevant information about the music industry sector, including policy monitoring.
  • Creation of an online tool to identify potential partners and service providers in the music industry.
  • Organization of trainings and seminars on the use of the platform and the online tool.
  • Carrying out a study on the policies and legal frameworks concerning the music industry in order to identify areas of improvement and formulate recommendations.
  • Organization of a seminar to discuss the resulting recommendations with the music industry stakeholders.
