Securing Manovo-Gounda St. Floris National Park
Phase 2

© José Tello

Located in the North-East of the Central African Republic, the Manovo-Gounda Saint Floris National Park (PNMGSF) covers 17,400 km² and is the largest savannah park in Central Africa.  Situated astride two ecological zones, the property owes its significance to the richness of its flora and fauna.  However, the integrity of the park is, and has been for a long time, threatened by poaching of rhino, elephant and giraffe, illegal grazing, and lack of protection and management measures.

Objectives

The overall objective of this project is to develop and implement a safeguarding plan for the park through the implementation of an emergency strategy, the provision of human and material resources, and the involvement of communities and local authorities. This is done with the aim of securing the park in order to protect its biodiversity and enable the property to maintain its Outstanding Universal Value.

Main activities

The activities will be defined according to the results of the first phase of the project and will participate in the strengthening of the achievements of the first phase and in the fulfilment of the above-mentioned objectives.
