In 2016, Victorien Erussard and Jerôme Delafosse created the very first emission-free ship that draws its energy from the forces of nature. Now they set on developing more clean, sustainable and affordable energy solutions.
During a race, French mariner Victorien Erussard’s diesel generator broke down. He realised that, although surrounded by natural energy sources, he was reliant on diesel fuel to continue his journey. With the help of explorer Jerôme Delafosse, he started looking at how to capitalise on sustainable energy.
Reducing emissions, inspiring action
And so, with a team of experts, the pair began working on the first zero-emissions vessel. Since the hydrogen-powered vessel was launched in 2017, Victorien and Jerôme have been travelling the world to share their story and show how the ecological transition can become a reality.
Combining education & concrete solutions
Taking this commitment one step further, the pair launched Energy Observer Solutions as a laboratory for sustainable solutions and educational digital content platform. The aim? Raise awareness about the UN’s SDGs to drive change. As the project grows, a solutions incubator, Energy Observer Developments, has been set up to produce energy solutions on an industrial scale.
300,000 people have visited the itinerant Energy Observer exhibition about clean energy over the past 3 years, encouraging citizens to take action to protect our planet. The zero-emission vessel and innovative REXH2 fuel cell system also serve as models for accelerating the ecological transition.
