Marine World Heritage Expert Meeting - Sudan

From 9 to 12 October 2018, World Heritage marine managers from the Africa and Arab region will share their lessons learned with the Sanganeb Marine National Park and Dungonab Bay – Mukkawar Island Marine National Park (Sudan).

World Heritage marine managers share a wealth of solutions and best practices on how to deal with the conservation challenges they face. Bringing these success stories together in ways that make them suitable for replication in other marine areas, is a central part of the World Heritage Marine Programme’s work.

In close collaboration with the UNESCO Office in Khartoum and the Sudanese National Commission for Education, Science and Culture, a Marine World Heritage Expert Meeting will be organized in Port Sudan (Sudan) from 9 to 12 October 2018. The meeting will build local capacity in support of the management of the Sanganeb Marine National Park and Dungonab Bay – Mukkawar Island Marine National Park World Heritage marine site by bringing together key expertise from the UNESCO marine World Heritage network. The meeting will build on the recently developed management plan and aims to accelerate its implementation through the exchange of best practices.

Sanganeb Marine National Park and Dungonab Bay – Mukkawar Island Marine National Park was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2016.
