Nakhon Phanom Statement on World Heritage of Religious Interest in Asia-Pacific Region

From 17 to 19 May 2017, thanks to the support of the Thai Government, the International Consultation Workshop on World Heritage of Religious Interest focused on Asia-Pacific Region was organized within the framework of the UNESCO Initiative on Heritage of Religious Interest.

The meeting was attended by the States Parties’ representatives from Kingdom of Bhutan, People’s Republic of China, Kyrgyz Republic, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Republic of India, Republic of Indonesia, Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, Republic of the Philippines, Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri-Lanka, Kingdom of Thailand and Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, representatives of UNESCO World Heritage Centre, UNESCO Office in Bangkok, ICOMOS PRERICO, invited experts and researchers, and representative of religious communities.

The adopted Statement will contribute to the development, by the World Heritage Centre, in consultation with the Advisory Bodies, of a thematic paper proposing to States Parties general guidance regarding the management of their cultural and natural heritage of religious interest, as requested by the World Heritage Committee.
