Celebration of International Women’s Day 2019

ON 8 MARCH

Let’s write the stories of overlooked women for more gender equality in the digital sphere

 

The #WIKI4WOMEN initiative calls everyone to take a few minutes of their time to create, enrich or translate, in as many languages as possible, Wikipedia profiles of women committed in the fields of education, science, culture, social and human sciences, or communication and information.

No matter where you are in the world, all you have to do to join #WIKI4WOMEN is:

  • Create an account on Wikipedia
  • Start working on women profiles.

Choose your Wikipedia page:

English | Français | Español | Русский | العربية | 中文 | Other languages

 

  • Pragmatic, always in a rush - I complete an article (30 minutes)
  • Meticulous Polyglot - I translate (between 30 and 60 minutes)
  • Discerning Perfectionist - I enrich (between 1 and 2 hours)
  • Persistent hard-worker - I write a portrait (between 2 and 4 hours)

A GLOBAL CONTRIBUTION

On 8 March, celebration date of the International Women’s Day 2019, UNESCO's field offices and its Headquarters in Paris, among other activities, will host contributors, including UNESCO’s staff, members of Permanent Delegations, partners, representatives of civil society, students, and the general public.

Join us in Paris, Bangkok, New Delhi, Almaty, Cairo, Lima, Buenos Aires, Reykjavik, Akureyri, and online to actively increase the number of Wikipedia profiles of women.

 
#WIKI4WOMEN is an initiative led by UNESCO and Wikimedia, with the support of Canada, Iceland, Republic of Korea, the Fondation CHANEL, ENGIE, The New York Times, France Medias Monde and La Journée de la Femme Digitale.
 
UNESCO considers gender equality as a fundamental human right, a building block for social justice and an economic necessity. It is a critical factor for the achievement of all internationally agreed development goals as well as a goal in and of itself.
