The Virtual Art Museum "Memento Mori Covid 19" Towards the Real Museum

On May 25, 2020 Herry Dim invited his fellow artists to create black and white works with a size of 19 x 19 cm. It turned out to be received extraordinary. So on May 28, 2020 he created the group site "Virtual Museum 19x19 MementoMori Covid19" while accommodating submissions of original works that continued to arrive. Since the beginning, it has been thought to create a real museum to display the works of artists who care about Covid 19 Pandemic. This museum also plans to collect information about Padvid Covid 19 since its emergence in Wuhan and then spread throughout the world. But it all depends on the ability of funds because the movement is entirely done by Herry Dim alone which then has the support of artists in the form of works. The site "Virtual Museum 19x19 MementoMori Covid19" can be seen at https://www.facebook.com/groups/2880403935399345/

A Film about teenagers surviving COVID in different countries

Hello! My name is Aglaia. I made a film about teenagers from across the globe, who talk about their life in confinement. The main message of the film is that we need to act responsibly in order to beat this disease. Even if doing so is difficult. The film is available on YouTube. I am ready to make more films, because I think that young people believe each other and can relate to each other's problems. If one teenager says: "act responsibnly, wear a mask, wash your hands", other teenagers are likely to listen. A short film that teens will want to see is an effective way to deliver a message that can save lives. If you would like to contact me, my mail is daniilrozental@hotmail.com Thank you.

Hidden Christian Sites in the Nagasaki Region

Located in the Nagasaki and Kumamoto prefectures in the northwestern part of Kyushu Island of the Japanese Archipelago, the ‘Hidden Christian Sites in the Nagasaki Region’ is a serial property comprising 12 components, made up of ten villages, one castle remains, and one cathedral dating from between the 17th and 19th centuries. They reflect the era of prohibition of the Christian faith, as well as the revitalization of Christian communities after the official lifting of the prohibition in 1873. Hidden Christians survived as communities that formed small villages sited along the seacoast or on remote islands to which Hidden Christians migrated during the ban on Christianity. Hidden Christians gave rise to a distinctive religious tradition that was seemingly vernacular yet which maintained the essence of Christianity, and they survived continuing their faith over the ensuing two centuries.

    Ithra Connect

What is the Ithra Connect initiative? Time is everything. And we have had no time to waste in the launching of a new initiative by the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra). The new Ithra Connect initiative provides an online platform for transforming the hours of anticipation and waiting brought on by these exceptional circumstances with an outlet for productivity and self-development. The Ithra Connect initiative includes diverse interactive programs and educational media for all segments of society through Ithra’s website and social media outlets such as YouTube and Twitter via the #IthraConnect hashtag. The initiative presents knowledge and thought enrichment programs covering the five pillars on which Ithra stands – Creativity, Culture, Knowledge, Art and Community. Why did Ithra launch this initiative? Local and international health authorities agree that staying at home is the most effective approach to keeping families and society safe during our current situation. This has resulted in an abundance of free time for so many of our daily lives since schooling and work have largely ground to a halt. The Ithra Connect initiative is an extension of Ithra’s role in growing knowledge and inspiring new tracks of creativity through the latest teaching methods. The goal is to present exceptional cultural experiences through innovative approaches as part of its dedication to the community and in solidarity with the Kingdom’s efforts to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Through diversified content, Ithra Connect seeks to provide a rich experience for our community and reach new members. The initiative seeks to bridge the gap created by circumstance between Ithra’s offerings and our audience, visitors, participants and members. To achieve this, we are offering this collection of nine interactive programs to engage the interests of family members and each of their age groups.

The meetings include guest speakers, educational programs, and discussion groups. We have also introduced the initiative ‘NCJWA Vic Sessions’, for Seniors Program volunteers also offering group discussions and guest speakers via Zoom. The Jam Project

The Jam Project is a teenage - buddy program matching girls aged 14-16 years with a female 'buddy' aged 21-28, with the goal of promoting the empowerment of girls, while helping to build their own sense of self-worth, self-belief and autonomy. Ordinarily, this is achieved through secure and reliable fortnightly catch ups for up to a period of a year. In addition monthly group sessions bring the girls and buddies together for workshops and activities that enhance their mindset and promote their curiosity, resilience and autonomy. The girls and their buddies now catch up weekly on phone or Facetime and staff are in regular weekly contact with them. The program offers ad hoc activities for buddies and girls in Zoom while maintain the monthly group sessions. We also introduced a weekly newsletter for the Jam Family (girls, buddies and parents) which provides discussion topics and stay at home activities that the girls and buddies can share.

    Caring Mums

Caring Mums is a confidential, non- denominational program providing emotional support to mothers and pregnant women. It matches trained volunteers to new mums with the goal of developing secure trusting relationships. Through up to 12 months of regular weekly meetings, mums’ feelings of isolation, anxiety and depression decrease, while their parenting confidence, sense of belonging and connection grow significantly. In response to the COVID- 19, NCJWA Vic quickly adapted the program to operate in the on-line environment. Our priority was to keep offering our service as we understood the impact this reality could have on vulnerable and isolated populations. Face to Face weekly catch ups between the participant and her volunteer were replaced by Facetime calls, often accompanied by small acts of kindness such as a take away coffee left on the participant’s door step. Sometimes the volunteer accompanied the participant virtually (via Facetime) on a walk. Our Caring Mums team have maintained fortnightly supervision sessions for volunteers via zoom and are always available by phone. New intakes have continued with staff matching new mums to volunteers. We continue to train new volunteers to meet demand. All volunteers receive 20 hours of training. Usually this takes place over 5 weeks in a face to face setting. The most recent training was interrupted by the pandemic and quickly switched to an online platform. To counteract the enhanced isolation many of our participants were experiencing we introduced a new virtual mothers’ group ‘Caring Mums Together’. The group is facilitated by Michelle Kornberg (Caring Mums Coordinator, educator, family counsellor, parenting, relationships and grief specialist) and meets weekly. The group are in regular contact between sessions via WhatsApp. In addition, we have initiated a fortnightly Caring Mums newsletter for all Caring Mums stakeholders with interesting parenting articles, podcasts and Ted Talks.

    Arts Education

This is a document that collects a series of art education practices that have taken place in Portugal since the beginning of the lockdown. To celebrate the International Arts Education Week 2020, Arte Central launched this project called "Set of Art Education Practices: visual arts in pandemic times". We invited teachers from all levels of education to participate by sharing the activities they are working on with students. We received 30 generous contributions, here collected, but teachers continue to send us material, so that we might have to launch a second edition, with more activities. As a member of the International Society for Education Through Art (InSEA) and of the World Alliance for Arts Education (WAAE), Arte Central has decided to mark that special week by becoming an aggregating element, making the bridge between these teachers, sharing their practices, in order also to understand what is happening in Visual Arts in our formal education system.

International E-Seminar: An Interactive session on ResiliArt Movement

On the occasion of World Art Day, Club per l'Unesco Genova Città Metropolitana along with AIAP/IAA INDIA, official partner of UNESCO in India, under UNIVART Foundation had organised an e-seminar on the ResiliArt movement. In this time of crisis, when the world is suffering from economic and psychological trauma, art has become a primary source of solace. The health crisis brought on by the novel corona virus has plunged the global economy into a recession. Majority of UNESCO World Heritage properties have closed down, along with cultural institutions and museums. The artists are struggling to survive as their medium of income has been ‘locked down’. The e-seminar was held on 24th April 2020, representing countries such as Italy, Turkey, Germany and India. The event was inaugurated by Manaj Saha (President IAA INDIA, official partner of UNESCO) who began the discussion on ResiliArt with Massimo Ruggero (President of Club of UNESCO Genova). The chief speaker was Bedri Bakyam (President of IAA World, official partner of UNESCO) and his speech was followed by Eva Moll (Curator and Artist). The debate focused on the power of artistic expression and its value from a psychological point of view. Another ‘e-seminar’ was held on 26th April 2020 by AIAP/IAA INDIA, official partner of UNESCO in India, under UNIVART Foundation. The discussion took place between Mr. Manaj Saha, President of IAA INDIA, Official Partner of UNESCO and Mr. Amit Bhar, Vice President of IAA INDIA, Official Partner of UNESCO, along with Mr. Samir Sarkar, Eminent Artist and Art Activist and Dr.Neerja Chandna Peters, awardee of Wales Hartley.

    Culture as a Changemaker

Patachitra is a traditional art form of West Bengal, India in which stories are painted on vertical scroll and the Patachitra artists also known as Patuas, gradually unfurl them while presenting the story through songs known as Pater Gaan. It is a blend of oral and visual storytelling traditionally based on mythological themes. But in the recent past Patuas have started to paint on contemporary themes like natural disaster, climate change to create awareness among the masses and the traditional art form is being used as a social communiqué. Swarna Chitrakar a senior Patachitra artist from Naya village in Paschim Medinipur district of West Bengal has developed a 7 frame long Patachitra painting and a song on COVID-19 in order to raise awareness through art. The detailed narrative has vividly captured the mayhem caused by the virus outbreak. The Patachitra has highlighted the virus’s origin, health professionals in PPE suits and people in masks. In her vibrant and informative art work and Pater Gaan, Swarna also talks about the precautionary measures one can take to fight the virus. The entire painting has been done with natural colours derived from flowers and plants, one of the special features of Patachitra paintings. Swarna’s art work and song on COVID-19 when shared on the internet received overwhelming response from different parts of the world. When asked about how she feels about all the appreciation Swarna’s answer was “I want my work to positively influence people so that they take proper precaution, after all art and culture are changemakers too”.

Virtual parade “Wear your traditional clothing to celebrate Latvia”

The Covid-19 pandemic has substantially limited opportunities of being together and expressing the intangible cultural heritage traditions which people of Latvia cherish and highly appreciate. Due to the state of emergency the annual initiative to dress up in traditional clothing and go on a parade in order to celebrate the 4th of May – the Day of the Proclamation of the Declaration on the Renewal of Independence of the Republic of Latvia had to be cancelled. The same precaution measures needed to be applied in postponing one of the major events in Latvian culture when people go on a parade, sing and dance in their traditional clothing – the Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Celebration which should have taken place on June-July, 2020. The emergency situation, however, has not discouraged people and relevant organisations to find new and innovative ways to share the cultural expression of wearing and showcasing traditional clothing in a digital environment. Latvian National Centre for Culture, traditional clothing centre “Senā klēts”, and the association “My Traditional Clothing” publically invited choirs, amateur dance collectives, folklore groups, as well as every owner of a traditional clothing to take part in a virtual parade “Wear Your Traditional Clothing to Celebrate Latvia” on the 4th of May, 2020. This incentive foresaw to dress up in traditional clothing individually or together with the closest family members living together, and to make a photo. Whereas the amateur dance collectives, choirs, and folklore groups were asked to make a photo-collage of their members dressed up in traditional clothing they use when performing. People were invited to publically share their photos on social media using a hashtag #tautastērpugājiens (eng. traditional clothing parade) which indicated they agree that the Latvian National Centre for Culture includes his/hers photo in a joint video and a public photo gallery. These materials were intended as documentary evidence for this unusual form of celebrating the tradition. This incentive will serve as everlasting testimony to the special role traditional clothing has in strengthening national self-esteem, identity and sense of belonging this way showing the tradition cannot be disrupted because it adapts to extraordinary times. On the 4th of May the virtual parade “Wear Your Traditional Clothing to Celebrate Latvia” united more than 4000 thousands of Latvians across the country and from Latvian diaspora abroad, as well as people who are close to Latvian culture.

Commonwealth Creativity & Innovation Challenge for Young People

The Commonwealth Creativity & Innovation Challenge is for girls and boys, in school and at home, aged 8-16 years. The impact of COVID-19 means that more than 1.5 billion children are currently out of school. Lockdown has shown us new possibilities where children might be able to access education using tech. Designed and run by the Commonwealth Businesswomen's Network (CBWN), Flow In Action and the GSMA, the Challenge invites young people to imagine and share their innovative ideas to solve UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 by 2030. The Challenge asks children and youth, “What if...a mobile phone was a school?” It invites them to think about and explore how a mobile phone can be used offline (and/or online) to learn wherever they are in the world. They will are using their problem-solving and creative thinking skills to come up with ideas and develop their digital skills as they create their design, to share with other young people around the Commonwealth. In response to the Challenge, they create a poster of their concept and share it with the organisers to display in the online Commonwealth Gallery, which will open in June 2020. This Challenge is designed and run by a team of women involved in innovation, education and enterprise who are passionate about giving young people opportunities to unleash their creativity using design thinking and technology to be problem-solvers for people and planet.

    Cultura e Salute

The spread of Coronvirus (COVID-19) has had and is still having a rippling effect on everyone’s life: one after the other, all public events and activities have been canceled for the foreseeable future, forcing people to stay home and cope with this unprecedented hard moment by themselves. While watching tv and reading may sound like a productive ways of spending time, they just aren’t enough to satisfy our needs, we want more, we want to live joyful convivial moments that make us feel like everything will be ok and that “normal life”, as we know it, is just around the corner. The Cultural Department of the City of Lugano in collaboration with IBSA Foundation presented to the press on March 10, 2020 the Culture and Health project, which stems from the understanding that a greater cross-sectoral alliance between two seemingly distant worlds, such as art and wellbeing, can improve people’s life quality. As a response to the current COVID-19 situation, the partnership created a special project, a web-information hub available on culturaesalute.ch, which contains Switzerland’s digital cultural offer as a whole, offering direct access to museums, music, dance, and theatre experiences through virtual views accessible directly from everyone’s home devices, alongside a number of international art resources and experiences to broaden the offer and make everyone feel connected through a shared love of art, creation, and life. The website’s content, which currently counts 250+ initiatives, is divided in 11 categories: architecture and design, visual arts, cinema, literature, media, museums and libraries, music, kids, theatre and dance, formation/education, culture and health in addition to a list of support resources available in Switzerland for the artistic community. www.culturaesalute.ch is allowing us the opportunity to showcase, share, celebrate, and connect with the evolution of culture, but most of all help our people get through.

Workers such as assistants, coordinators, technicians and operators from different production departments like camera, sound, art, make-up, costume design, locations and transportation, among others, many of whom are paid hourly wages and work on a project-to-project basis, will be eligible to apply for the TRY 2,500 one-time benefit. Visual Artists Ireland - COVID-19 Response

VAI Online has been established to engage with individual artists isolated in their homes, and in keeping with our policy, VAI has continued its work in providing #ATrustedSpace for artists. Establishing weekly Visual Artists Café in the form of online visits to Artists Studios combined with presentations from Arts Council officials, Directors of Museums and Galleries, as well as information clinics dealing with specific issues have all removed the sense of isolation, with positive response. These are supported by Online Help Desks and Webinars that are designed to provide information and skills required in dealing with the every day professional life of artists. As the impact of COVID-19 became clear, and isolation was shown to be an option, VAI has strongly advocated for the continued payment of artists, in keeping with our ongoing Ask! Has the Artist Been Paid? and payment rights policy. This has supported the initiative that all artists in Ireland should be paid on the basis of contracts, verbal and written, as well as work committed to by funded organisations. The initiative is now looking at the realities of the transition period and contributing to discussions and policies being set in place so that artists can return to their studios, and organisations, venues and events may eventually return to work.

Not only do they bring maritime archaeology to life for the non-diver, they're a lot easier to interpret than more traditional geophysical survey techniques or photographs taken in poor visibility. They can even aid archaeologists' work on land by allowing measurements to be taken and analysis to be carried out post-dive.

Support measures for literature and publishing

There has been an increased need for library services during the crisis period. Additional support of 300,000 euros has been allocated to libraries and Estonian Children's Literature Center in order to give libraries additional ability to buy more books and thus help publishers. For example through the Estonian Children's Literature Center, libraries who participate in the reading program "Reading Content”, are able to purchase additional books to be distributed through county libraries participating in the program (89 libraries at the moment). Additionally, the budget for the library loan compensation at the Author Compensation Fund (SA Autorihüvitusfond) will be increased by 100,000 euros. Estonia has also launched a pilot project for its own audio books in co-operation with the National Year of Digital Culture 2020 with a total budget of 50,000 euros. Within the supplementary budget, number of amendments have been made that help the sector - the reduction of VAT to 9% for e-books and e-publications, and additional funds for natural persons in creative sector.

Lancelot.education: online platform to support and encourage education in African French speaking countries

Reading has always been a way to stay educated and intellectually active for both adults and young people. Lancelot.education is an online platform created in the Arab Emirates for French-speaking countries in Africa which was created to encourage young people in their reading efforts. The principle is simple, a child reads a book and, on our platform, collects points by answering different questions about the book. By monitoring the number of points collected, parents and teachers can see if a child has understood what it has read and can adjust their teaching and supervision of their children accordingly. Lancelot.education is mainly an educational support tool for understanding books of the school curriculum in French African countries. Additionally, the platform also covers classic French literature books and books for young readers. Lancelot can also support students deprived of education during this difficult period of covid-19. Teachers can use Lancelot as a tool for better monitoring and testing the efforts of their students while at the same time, students feel encouraged in tracking their reading progress. www.lancelot.education

The Forgotten Wrecks Projec and the HMD John Mitchell

The HMD John Mitchell was an 85 foot (25 m) long steam drifter that sunk on the 14th November 1917 after colliding with SS Bjerka. Fortunately there was no loss of life when the wreck disappeared into the sea, approximately 15 miles from Swanage. The wreck of the John Mitchell was rediscovered by Dave Wendes, a local dive boat skipper and historian, after he was alerted by a local fisherman who caught his nets on the wreck. Today she lies at a depth of 40 m - inaccessible to most. With the generous funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Maritime Archaeology Trust has been able to research the wreck through our ongoing project, the Forgotten Wrecks of the First World War. Volunteer divers have collected information, video and images from the site, and artefacts recovered from the wreck have also been recorded. This information will be freely available in an online database, which will be live when the Forgotten Wrecks Project is completed in Spring 2018. For further information on the HMD John Mitchell, please visit the project website

The project is a collaboration between the University of Nottingham, Ain Shams (Cairo) and Alexandria University, who are using 3D and virtual reality technologies to provide greater access to various submerged sites within the region. The SS Thistlegorm was chosen to represent the project due to its wide recognition within the diving community. By providing access to a site previously only accessible to divers; public awareness of underwater heritage in Egypt may be increased regionally and internationally; and further conservation and preservation of said heritage may be achieved.

    Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove

The dense forest of the Osun Sacred Grove, on the outskirts of the city of Osogbo, is one of the last remnants of primary high forest in southern Nigeria. Regarded as the abode of the goddess of fertility Osun, one of the pantheon of Yoruba gods, the landscape of the grove and its meandering river is dotted with sanctuaries and shrines, sculptures and art works in honour of Osun and other deities. The sacred grove, which is now seen as a symbol of identity for all Yoruba people, is probably the last in Yoruba culture. It testifies to the once widespread practice of establishing sacred groves outside all settlements. The grove covers an area of 75 hectares and it is a typical example of a true primary rainforest that is fast disappearing in the West African Sub-region and one of the few vestiges of the rainforests in Nigeria.

    The Gnalić shipwreck

The Gnalić shipwreck is a little over three nautical miles distant from Biograd na moru, Croatia, on the Dalmatian coast. Previous archaeological investigations exposed the remains of a large ship dating to the late 16th century. Artifacts excavated at the time include a rich assortment of items and materials including: glass vessels and mirrors, brass chandeliers, shaving razors, and candle snuffers. One of the most interesting and rare finds was a collection of spectacles packed in little wooden boxes. Determining the provenience and destination of all these items will shed light on the nature of commerce routes in the central Mediterranean world of the late 16th century. This audio-visual work was composed by Kotaro Yamafune, a Ph.D. student at Texas A&M University, as a part of primary results of Gnalic Project 2014 field season.

Virtual Dive on the Wreck of the Melckmeyt (1659)

The wreck at the centre of the project is a merchant ship named Melckmeyt (Milkmaid). It was discovered in 1992 by local divers Erlendur Guðmundsson and Sævar Árnason, close to a tiny isolated island called Flatey in Breiðafjörður, off the west coast of Iceland. Investigations at the site restarted in 2016, when a team of divers from the University of Iceland decided to carry out a more detailed survey. This team was led by Kevin Martin, a maritime archaeologist and PhD student in archaeology at the University of Iceland, with the assistance of maritime archaeologists from the Dutch Cultural Heritage Agency who are interested in the ship as it is believed to have been built in the Netherlands and represents one of the world’s most northerly historical Dutch shipwrecks. The team was able to apply the latest technological innovations to make a high-resolution 3D survey of the shipwreck and this data has been used as the basis of the virtual reality experience. This video was made by John McCarthy
