Centre of Excellence for Business Skills Development

Centre of Excellence for Business Skills Development

Young people are the foundation for sustainable development in Myanmar, but they need practical, hands-on training to become competitive in the workforce as well as business and community leaders. To strengthen business skills for youth employment, UNESCO, PepsiCo and the Ministry of Education in Myanmar have collaborated in a groundbreaking project establishing the Centre of Excellence for Business Skills Development (CEBSD) at the Yangon University of Economics (YUE).

The CEBSD is the first initiative of its kind in Myanmar, bringing together the private and public sectors to respond to the needs of unemployed youth through career counseling, networking opportunities, and targeted training in business and employability skills.

The Ministry of Education has generously allocated facilities on Parami Road, refurbished in the first phase of the project, to house the CEBSD to provide space for the private sector and academia to jointly address business development issues. Through seminars, guest-speaker sessions, applied research opportunities and skills development courses, the CEBSD will help to transform how the education sector engages with business and equips young people to successfully participate in the working world. The Centre will also provide a model of good practices in private-sector engagement for education and training in Myanmar.
