Jabal Moussa (Lebanon)

Located on the western slopes of the Mount Lebanon range and overlooking the Mediterranean sea, this 6,500-ha biosphere reserve encompasses the ‘Mount of Moses’ and its seven villages. Jabal Moussa’s landscape preserved throughout centuries conceals the markings of a region at the meeting point of civilisations, which archaeologists are still unearthing.

The International Biosphere Reserve of the Mediterranean has been considered a model of management and cooperation. In the area, the migratory routes of birds cross continents and those of marine organisms cross oceans. But people and cultures also ow between countries, adding up to a great diversity that seems to blur the physical divisions of the territory.
