Ninth Meeting of the Scientific and Technical Advisory Body (STAB)

The ninth meeting of the Scientific and Technical Advisory Body (STAB) of the 2001 Convention will take place on 24 April 2018. An Exchange Day for Permanent Delegations and international experts will precede the meeting on the morning of 23 April 2018 and deal with “Heritage and our Oceans”. A meeting between the NGO’s and the STAB will take place in the afternoon of that same day. These sessions, organized in the framework of the 2001 Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage, will be held in Room IV at UNESCO Headquarters (Fontenoy building).

Observers may participate in the STAB meeting without the right to vote, and may take the floor subject to the consent of the Chairperson. The Exchange Day is open for interventions from all participants in the room.

A closed meeting for members of the UNESCO Unitwin University Network for Underwater Archaeology will take place on 25-26 April 2018 in Room VI of the UNESCO Fontenoy Building

The main issues discussed during the 9th session of the STAB will be:

  • Report on STAB Missions (Bulgaria and Guatemala)
  • Best Practices on Access to Underwater Cultural Heritage (Update and New Proposals)
  • Contribution to the International Decade of Ocean Science and Ocean Fora
  • Implementation of worldwide heritage protection

The sessions will begin at 10 a.m. and end at 6 p.m., with a break at 1 p.m. The working documents are available online on the present page (see below).
