The Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, has condemned the bombing of a radio station in Yemen, killing three employees, Omar Ezzi Mohammad, Ali Aish Mohammad Youssef, Jamaie Abdullah Musib, as well as another civilian unconnected to the broadcaster, in the Governorate of Hodeida in Western Yemen on 16 September.
“I condemn the attack which led to the death of three employees of a radio station in Yemen”, the Director-General stated. “I call on all parties to the conflict to take measures to protect media workers and respect civilians’ need to access information, especially in crisis situations.”
Omar Ezzi Mohammad was a radio engineer at the Al-Maraweah radio station where Ali Aish Mohammad Youssef and Jamaie Abdullah Musib worked as security guards.
UNESCO promotes the safety of journalists through global awareness-raising, capacity building and a range of actions, notably the UN Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity.
