“I condemn the murder of Kishore Dave,” said the Director-General. “I trust that legal proceedings already underway will shed full light on this crime, which undermines journalists’ ability to carry out their work and contribute to open and informed public debate.”

Kishore Dave, the Junagadh bureau chief of daily newspaper Jai Hind was murdered on August 22. His assailants are reported to have been arrested.

The Director-General of UNESCO issues statements on the killing of media workers in line with Resolution 29 adopted by UNESCO Member States at the Organization’s General Conference of 1997, entitled “Condemnation of Violence against Journalists.” These statements are posted on a dedicated webpage, UNESCO condemns the killing of journalists.
