15/11/2019

The Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, has condemned the murder of radio journalist Dindo Generoso, killed on 7 November in Dumaguete on the Philippines island of Negros.

“I condemn the murder of Dindo Generoso,” declared the Director-General. “I call on the authorities to investigate this case so as to bring its perpetrators to justice and send a clear message that gunpoint censorship will not be tolerated.”

Two men on a motorbike reportedly shot Generoso, host of a morning programme on dyEM 96.7 FM, while he was driving home from work.

UNESCO promotes the safety of journalists through global awareness-raising, capacity building and a range of actions, notably in the framework of the UN Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity.
