Director-General condemns killing of radio presenter Marlon David Martínez Caballero in Honduras

The Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, today condemned the killing of radio presenter Marlon David Martínez Caballero in the Honduran city of San Pedro Sula.

“I condemn the murder of Marlon David Martínez Caballero,” the Director-General said. “Censorship by the gun must not be allowed to suppress freedom of expression anywhere.”

Marlon David Martínez Caballero, also known as El Socio, was a presenter on TopMusic radio, of which he was also the director. He was shot on 6 February.

The Director-General of UNESCO issues statements on the killing of media workers in line with Resolution 29 adopted by UNESCO Member States at the Organization’s General Conference of 1997, entitled “Condemnation of Violence against Journalists.” These statements are posted on a dedicated webpage, UNESCO condemns the killing of journalists.
