In-service teacher training system and Teacher professional Development Models of Uzbekistan

In-service teacher training system and Teacher professional Development Models of Uzbekistan were discussed in a three-day research Workshop that was held in 16-18 February 2022, Radisson Blu Tashkent Hotel.

Stakeholders in the teacher professional development and trainings, international and local experts of UNESCO, researchers shared their insights and exchanged views on teacher professional development models and its implication for education system.

This significant workshop assessed related gaps and needs of teacher training system of Uzbekistan.

The main results of the Research workshop were:

  • discussion and agreement on the key findings from Field Test 1 (FT1) process, which has been held in four pilot regions of Uzbekistan (Nukus, Khiva, Namangan and Tashkent city) with more than 130 teachers’ participation in September-November 2021;
  • evaluation of the research approach and  implications for the Teacher Professional Development at Scale model;
  • analysis of lessons from FT1 for the education sector in Uzbekistan and policy makers;
  • discussion and agreement of detailed research action plan for Field Test 2.

The event was organised within the framework of the UNESCO project “Adapting and Scaling Teacher Professional Development Approaches in Ghana, Honduras and Uzbekistan”, funded by the International Development Research Centre in the amount of $435,000, as part of the GPE-KIX (The Global Partnership for Education Knowledge and Innovation Exchange) initiative.
