Element Căluş ritual (Romania)
Inscribed in 2008 (3.COM) on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (originally proclaimed in 2005)
Title as submitted EN: Performed by male dancers of southern Romania to the accompaniment of two violins and an accordion, the Calus ritual features a series of games, skits, songs and dances. The dancers, believed to be endowed with magical healing powers, go from house to house, promising good health and prosperity to the villagers.
Title as submitted FR: Exécuté par des hommes du sud de la Roumanie accompagnés de deux violonistes et d’un accordéoniste, le rituel du Calus recouvre un ensemble de jeux, de parodies, de chants et de danses. Les danseurs, que l’on croyait naguère investis de pouvoirs magiques de guérison, vont de maison en maison, promettant santé et prospérité aux villageois.
Title as submitted ES: Interpretado por bailarines varones de Rumania meridional, con acompañamiento de dos violines y un acordeón, el ritual del Căluş consiste en una serie de juegos, parodias, cantos y danzas. Los bailarines, que se consideran dotados de poderes curativos mágicos, van de casa en casa, prometiendo buena salud y prosperidad a los aldeanos.
