Element Pansori epic chant (Republic of Korea)
Inscribed in 2008 (3.COM) on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (originally proclaimed in 2003)
Title EN: A genre of musical storytelling performed by a vocalist and a drummer, the Pansori is characterized by its expressive singing, stylized speech, repertory of narratives and distinct gestures. With revived interest in recent decades, performances increase but are less likely to include the extensive improvisation typical of the epic.
Title FR: Le Pansori est un genre de narration musicale exécuté par un chanteur accompagné d’un tambour. Cette tradition populaire se distingue par son chant expressif, son discours stylisé, son répertoire et sa gestuelle propres. Avec le récent regain d’intérêt pour cet art, les représentations se sont multipliées, mais elles minimisent souvent les longues improvisations caractéristiques du Pansori.
Title ES: El Pansori es una forma de narrativa musical interpretada por un cantante y un percusionista que se caracteriza por su canto expresivo, su discurso estilizado, su repertorio de relatos y sus gestos inconfundibles. Gracias a un renovado interés por este arte en los últimos decenios, el número de representaciones ha venido aumentando pero pocos intérpretes son capaces hoy en día de realizar las prolongadas improvisaciones características de esta narrativa épica.
