Inscribed in 2008 (3.COM) on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (originally proclaimed in 2003)
Title EN: A prominent musical expression among nomadic Mongolians, the Morin Khuur is an integral part of rituals and everyday activities. Distinct in sound, this two-stringed fiddle is characterized by its long neck bearing a carved horse head, reflecting the all-important cult of the horse among the nomad communities.
Title FR: Expression musicale majeure des nomades mongols, le Morin Khuur fait partie intégrante des rituels et des activités quotidiennes. Ce violon à deux cordes, au son unique, se caractérise par un long manche orné d’une tête de cheval, reflétant l’importance du culte de cet animal pour les communautés nomades.
Title ES: Expresión musical destacada de las poblaciones nómadas de Mongolia, el morin khuur forma parte integrante de sus rituales y actividades cotidianas. De peculiar sonido, este violín de dos cuerdas se caracteriza por su largo mástil rematado por una cabeza de caballo esculpida, reflejo del importantísimo culto al caballo entre estos pueblos nómadas.
