Online course: Flood management in Latin America and the Caribbean
This course, organised by UNESCO's Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme in Latin America and the Caribbean, jointly with the Ibero-American Conference of Water Directors (CODIA) and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), seeks to train technical and non-technical staff of governmental and non-governmental organisations in the Ibero-American region in useful tools for flood management, such as probabilistic estimation of hydrological events, geostatistics, mapping of extreme events, intensity duration frequency curves, forensic analysis of floods. The scope of this project aims to strengthen the capacities of the countries of the region in the operational and social management of floods, providing advice for the generation and maintenance of a warning system, telemetry and satellite tools to address floods and for the assessment of economic damages caused by floods, and to recover the experiences, case studies and lessons learned in Latin America on flood management.
