WPFD 2012: UNESCO Bangkok Office: Myanmar

Description of activities:

The Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and UNESCO are celebrating the World Press Freedom Day under the theme "Challenges to Media in A New Environment" on 3 May 2012 in Yangon, Myanmar. 

The Provisional Agenda is indicated below:

  • 08:30 – 09:30: Registration and welcome coffee
  • 09:30 – 09:45: Opening remarks by H.E. U Kyaw Hsan, Union Minister for Information and Culture (Confirmed)
  • 09:45 – 10:00: Message of the UNESCO Director-General read by Secretary-General of Myanmar National Commission for UNESCO (Confirmed)
  • 10.00 – 10:20: Address by a Representatives of the Parliament’s Media Committee
  • 10:20 -10:40:  Address by a Representatives of the Myanmar Journalists Association
  • 10:40 – 11:00: Address by a the Myanmar Writers Association

Aims/Desired outcome:

The aims of the celebration are:

  • to have a Representatives of the Parliament’s Media Committee address the theme "Challenges to Media in A New Environment";
  • To have a Representatives from Myanmar Journalist Association address the above theme;
  • To have a Representatives from Myanmar Writers Association address the above theme;
  • To have different views presented on the above theme.

Organizations and institutions involved in planning:

  • Minister for Information and Culture (MOI)
  • UNESCO

Target audience/Participants:

The event will be open for media representatives, journalists, university professors and students, development partners, and writers.

3 May 2012 in Yangon, Myanmar
