Global MIL Week 2015

The fourth annual global celebration of Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Week will take place June 22-28, 2015. MIL Week highlights include the MIL Conference taking place June 26-27, 2015 in Philadelphia, USA, and the meeting of the UNESCO-UNAOC International University Network on Media and Information Literacy and Intercultural Dialogue (MILID).

The MIL Week activities and conference are important opportunities for members of the Global Alliance for Partnerships on Media and Information Literacy (GAPMIL) and the International University MILID Network to meet and share the latest research, projects, new ideas and information with a diverse gathering of stakeholders involved in information and media literacy, and in print, screen-based and digital media. 

UNESCO and GAPMIL is calling partners all over the world to promote the MIL Week.

The 2015 Global MIL Week Conference will be held in collaboration with the US National Association for Media Literacy Education (NAMLE) and in partnership with the Center for Media and Information Literacy at Temple University.  The theme for the 2015 conference is Celebrating Connectivity Across Cultures. The mission is to promote connectivity across education, organizations, policies, initiatives and nations. The meeting will bring together international organizations, universities, associations, research groups and educators, media professionals, information specialists and librarians, policy makers and regulators, NGOs and practitioners in MIL from around the world to heighten public awareness of the importance of media and information literacy at a global level.

International MIL Award

The INTERNATIONAL MIL AWARD will recognize an educator* integrating MIL (media and information literacy) in an innovative way in their classroom and curriculum. The INTERNATIONAL MIL award is led by the Global Alliance for Partnership on Media and Information Literacy (GAPMIL) and Media and Information Literacy and Intercultural Dialogue University Network (MILID) with the support of UNESCO-UNAOC.

* Future years will and broaden invited candidates to include NGOs, associations, and other groups include additional themes.

Deadline: Nominations will be accepted until May 29, 2015.

Candidates may nominate themselves or they may be nominated by a colleague via this form.

Award Descriptions and Criteria

This award is intended to honor an educator in any subject area from kindergarten through university, as long as their curriculum reflects integration of media and information literacy concepts with a focus on intercultural dialogue.

  • Nominations should describe how the nominee’s teaching and curriculum impacts students in MIL.
  • Nominations should describe how the nominee’s teaching practice does influence or could influence the Media and Information Literacy field at large.
  • Nominations should provide links to two current curriculum examples and a syllabus (if appropriate) produced by the nominee.
